Exchange of young scientists between Germany and Japan is funded with 140,000 euros. At the University of Heidelberg, the establishment of a doctoral exchange programms with three Japanese universities with the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship "plus" for international cooperation between higher education institutions has been excellent. This will make it possible in the future, at least annually, six young scientists - equip for an exchange with the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship Foundation - three from Heidelberg and three of the Japanese partner in Kyoto, Osaka and Tohoku. The exchange should take place under the 2010-established German-Japanese University Consortium, where the Ruperto Carola is significantly involved. The project is planned with a total funding of 140,000 euros over three years.
The rectors and presidents of the University of Heidelberg, the University of Göttingen and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and three of the leading universities in Japan - Kyoto University, Osaka University and Tohoku University - In July 2010, a declaration establishing a German- Japanese University Consortium signed. The aim of this consortium is to intensify cooperation in research and teaching, to initiate joint research projects and graduate programs and to encourage the exchange of scientists, graduate students, and students.
With the award at the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship "plus" honors the Baden-Württemberg Foundation the previous collaborations. "In the different working groups encouraging joint research projects are planned, and it stands as of now an increased mobility of scientists for research trips and guest lecturers," says Dr. Joachim Gerke, director of the Department of International Affairs at the University. To promote the exchange within the consortium and at the level of graduate and doctoral intensive, can receive funds from the University of Heidelberg approved the now "BWS plus" project. The first scholarships will be awarded in January 2012.
With the program launched in September 2011 Baden-Württemberg Scholarship "plus" Baden-Württemberg Foundation supports innovative partnerships between universities and other international institutions. A total of 34 universities in the country took part with 47 applications in the tender. Ten projects from nine universities have now been selected for the 800,000 euro prize program: the Cooperative State Universities of Mannheim and Ravensburg, the Pedagogical University of Heidelberg, the music Trossingen, the universities of Karlsruhe and Offenburg and the universities of Heidelberg, Stuttgart and Tübingen.
